Amur

Amur is currently holding a playoff spot, but this has more to do with the weaker teams at the bottom of the Eastern Conference rather than the Tigers' outstanding performance. Over the past two weeks, the Khabarovsk team has lost five out of six games. Even their win against Admiral wasn't exactly convincing. Amur won 3-2, conceded twice when playing shorthanded, and took fewer shots on goal than their opponents. Maxim Dorozhko has been a bit of a savior for his team, yet Severstal and Dynamo Minsk managed to score six goals each against Amur. The key is to put pressure on the Tigers' net. Avangard is one of those teams that spends significant time on the offensive.

In this game, neither of the Galchenyuks will be present. The coach is ill, and the player is injured, leaving Lee and Korotkikh to carry the burden of the attack. The hosts are not only among the worst in terms of goals scored but also in creating opportunities.

Avangard

Avangard has clinched victory in five out of their last eight games. They lost to Metallurg in regulation time, to Severstal in overtime, and faced a heavy defeat in Astana; the latter game could well be considered a fiasco. Nonetheless, the Hawks holding onto 4th place is well-earned, and there's an opportunity to climb higher.

Omsk can boast an impressive offense, having scored 73 goals over 21 games. Only Metallurg has scored more. Poturalski and Okulov stand out in the attack, having already reached 23-plus points. Sharipzyanov and LaJoye also contribute effectively to the offense. The team ranks in the top five for shot conversion percentage on the road.

Prediction

Amur is a tough nut to crack by KHL standards, but the Tigers are currently far from their peak form. I'm concerned about the high number of goals conceded in Minsk and Cherepovets; it feels like Dorozhko might have lost some confidence there. If Avangard takes plenty of shots on his net, it could be effective. The Hawks rarely drop points against teams lower down the table. They also defeated Amur early in the season. It's worth noting Avangard's 35% power play conversion rate; in their last game, the Tigers had four penalties and twice had to dig the puck out of the net against Admiral. Individual skill favors the visitors too. I believe the favorite should win in regulation time.
