Boston Bruins vs Tampa Bay Lightning prediction
Boston Bruins
The Boston team has hit a rough patch, losing their last four games. In three of these matches, they struggled to score more than a single goal. However, the "bears" finally showed some offensive flair in their recent outing against Carolina, although they still came up short, losing 5-6 in overtime. Focusing on their home performance, the Bruins have consistently seen totals above 5.5 in their last five home games. Despite suffering two defeats to San Jose and Toronto by the same scoreline of 2-4, they secured three victories, scoring six goals in each. In the Eastern Conference standings, the club currently holds the 6th spot. While Boston sits behind Tampa by six points in the Atlantic Division, it's unlikely they'll catch up. However, Ottawa is right on their heels, so Boston simply has to play for the win tonight.
Tampa Bay Lightning
John Cooper's squad hasn't been particularly convincing of late, dropping their last three matches, all of which were played on the road. Nevertheless, these results haven't heavily impacted their position in the standings, thanks to their earlier cushion. Home advantage should still be on their side. Worth highlighting is Nikita Kucherov, who has been racking up points in five consecutive games and remains in contention for the top spot in the scoring race. Currently sitting in second place with 128 points, Kucherov trails McDavid by five, with the team now more focused on boosting their star player's statistics, having largely secured their postseason goals.
Prediction
In three of the last four head-to-head matchups between Ottawa and Tampa, they've scored a hefty combined total of at least seven goals. Moreover, Boston's recent home games consistently feature high scores, with totals above 5.5 logged five times in a row. Additionally, the Lightning are among the most high-scoring teams in the league, netting 282 goals. Taking into account all these statistics, as well as Kucherov's pursuit in the scoring race, I propose considering a bet on the over (5.5). Both teams are unlikely to play a defensive game, particularly given their recent less-than-stellar defensive stats over the past couple of weeks.
