The Wolves had quite a rocky start to the playoffs this season. Although they had a solid regular season, finishing second in the Central Division, the first round against Texas wasn't a walk in the park. They managed to clinch victory only in the decisive Game 5, albeit with a commanding score of 6-1.
The quarterfinals against Grand Rapids were a bit smoother, as Chicago never lost in regulation, maintaining a decent level of scoring throughout the series. When the semifinal against Colorado kicked off with a win (3-2), things seemed promising; however, they hit a snag as they suffered back-to-back losses, 5-2 and 3-2, and now find themselves playing catch-up.
One bright spot is Chicago's power play performance. In Game 1, they scored all 3 goals during power plays, with contributions from Robidas, Nadeau, and Gunler. Just the other day, Fensore even managed a short-handed goal, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
Colorado Eagles
In the Pacific Division, where the Eagles competed during the regular season, they finished in the second spot, even though they closed out the regular campaign with losses against Calgary (5-2) and (7-5). Despite this, Colorado had a breeze in the playoffs against San Diego, achieving a sweeping 9-1 aggregate win across two games, and comfortably brushed aside Henderson with a 3-1 win, without dropping a single game in regulation. They did falter just once on the road against Coachella.
Up to this point, it's fair to say that Colorado has had a far smoother and more convincing journey to the semifinals compared to their rivals. This was partly due to their formidable offensive play, with four Colorado players ranking among the top nine scoring leaders in the playoffs. Barré-Boulet has notched 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists), Tynean 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists), Ivan boasts 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists), and Nielsen with 13 (8 goals, 5 assists). Tristen remains one of the most threatening skaters for the Eagles.
Prediction
In their last four head-to-head encounters, and 8 of the 11 games these teams have ever played, the "Over 4.5 goals" bet has invariably paid off (naturally, this current series hasn't seen fewer than 5 goals per game yet). Not to mention, Colorado has consistently hit that total in their last five playoff games, and Chicago has continued their scoring streak in their past six matches, showing no signs of slowing down.
It’s worth highlighting that Chicago hasn’t allowed fewer than two goals per game, extending over six games, while Colorado has been equally consistent over the last four. Additionally, almost all primary scorers from both sides rank in the top 15 playoff leaders, further emphasizing the high offensive intensity both teams bring to the table.
