Khimik Voskresensk vs Ugra prediction
Khimik Voskresensk
The team led by Egor Bashkatov has been consistently strong throughout the playoffs, leaving little room for anyone to doubt their superiority. As expected, the series against Iszhstal was relatively straightforward. Although Khimik lost one game, they controlled the series overall. They faced tougher challenges against Magnitka and Novokuznetsk Metallurg, losing twice each but ultimately overcoming their opponents.
In the finals, the yellow-blues began with a loss (1-2), despite Kholodilin opening the scoring on the power play. They struggled to extend or hold onto this fragile lead. The second game, however, was dominated by Khimik. Belyaev, Lukyantsev, Mansurov, and Krovyakov (all of whom also played for Spartak this season) each netted a goal. Although the Khanty-Mansiysk players managed to equalize several times, the home team ultimately prevailed.
It's worth noting that six Khimik players are in the top 20 playoff scorers, with Korotkikh (12 points: 4+8) and Krovyakov (12 points: 6+6) both ranking in the top five. While their offense remains steady, their defense deserves recognition, particularly Yevgeny Volokhin, who has been outstanding during this tournament. Throughout the playoffs so far, Khimik has only conceded more than three goals once, with opponents reaching the three-goal mark just four times.
Ugra
Alexander Perov's squad made a formidable start to the playoffs, defeating Bars (4-1) and then sweeping Omskie Krylia (4-0). The team also started the semifinals with strength, taking a commanding (3-0) series lead, but from that point on, it seemed as though the Khanty-Mansiysk team's game fell apart. At least, their offense struggled, with missed opportunities being a frequent issue.
Yugra lost three consecutive games to Neftyanik (2-3 in OT, 0-4, and 2-3) and only managed to edge out their opponents (2-1) in a challenging Game 7 at home. The final began with a win (2-1), thanks to goals from Kazakov and Maklozyan, but despite goals from Teryaev, Popov, and Kazakov two nights ago, they couldn't maintain the advantage, tying the series (1-1) as Khimik regained home-ice advantage.
Prediction
Heading into the finals, Yugra seemed to be the more apparent title contender, partly due to their slightly better regular season performance and having the league's strongest defensive line. Now, however, Khimik's experience is beginning to show; many of their players have participated in varied roles at Spartak and even played in the KHL playoffs, which could make a significant difference.
I've chosen to place a handicap (0) bet on Khimik, not just because they're playing at home today, but several factors influenced this decision. Firstly, in their last eight head-to-head encounters, Khimik has secured six victories. Secondly, looking exclusively at the home games against Yugra, Khimik has a 10-game winning streak, allowing just one goal in their last three meetings in Voskresensk.
Moreover, Yugra has lost their previous two away games, while Khimik has won four out of their last five home fixtures in this year's playoffs. In my view, these reasons are sufficient to give a slight edge to the hosts, even though the opponents are indeed well-matched.
