K.Siniakova vs A.Kalinskaya prediction
K.Siniakova
Recently, Siniakova has really picked up steam, occasionally delivering some pretty vibrant tennis. Ranked 39th in the world, she recently competed in Madrid, where she outplayed both Blinkova and Kalieva in straight sets. Unfortunately, she couldn't close out McNally and ended up losing in a tight three-setter. Even so, in that match, Kateryna could have pushed further, as she had plenty of opportunities. Now Siniakova is aiming to conquer Rome, and it's fair to say she's made a more than solid start to the tournament. The Czech beauty clinched victory against Boisson in her opening match in just two sets. Throughout that battle, Kateryna was commanding in extended rallies, breaking Louis' serve four times. She had no trouble getting into the game, managing to scoop 75% of her points on the first serve. Notably, her clay performance this season stands at a (3-1) record, proving that she knows how to play on this surface.
A.Kalinskaya
I don't have high expectations for Kalinskaya anymore. Anna hasn't been her best on hard courts, often stumbling in the early stages of tournaments (notable setbacks include her second-round exits against Mboko at Indian Wells and the unassuming Zakharova in Miami). Her fortunes haven't turned around on clay either. In Charleston, she was overwhelmed by young Jovic in the third round in straight sets. In Madrid, she also faltered against Galfi in two sets. A significant drawback for Kalinskaya could be her serve: in her latest match, the 24th-ranked player recorded no aces and incurred three double faults. Additionally, she surrendered her serve five times, indicating that there are issues in several areas.
Prediction
Siniakova has already kicked off her campaign in Rome and looked more than solid. The Czech consistently pushed forward, expertly guiding the ball to the corners, and repeatedly leaving Boisson at a loss. It's clear that Kateryna has a considerable amount of skill at her disposal. Moreover, historically she's posted a positive win-loss record on clay (146-89). Next up, she'll face Kalinskaya. Anna hasn't showcased top-tier tennis for quite some time. The Russian frequently makes errors on low balls, and there are issues with her volley game as well. I think her return shots are a bit shaky, which is problematic. Plus, the 24th-ranked player hasn't played much on clay throughout her career. Yes, Anna leads the head-to-head with a 2-1 record. However, in two instances, the sets were shared. So, Siniakova will certainly have her chances here. I'm taking the Czech's win on games (+1).
