KFUM vs Bodo/Glimt prediction
KFUM
Under the guidance of Jørgen Isnes, the Oslo-based KFUM team has clawed its way up to the Eliteserien from the lower leagues with their experienced mentor, who has intermittently managed the squad since 2016. As of now, they are in their third year and sit mid-table in 8th place. Before the break, their form was quite inconsistent, and they struggled to make a mark during the off-season preparations. Their lack of seriousness was evident from losing two friendlies, 1-5 against Molde and 0-2 against the Danish team Vendsyssel, ahead of the league's restart. KFUM focuses on playing a compact team game, employing intense midfield pressing, and banking on wing attacks and set pieces. On home turf, they prefer not to drop too deep and look for counter-attacking opportunities, but facing last year's Norwegian runners-up will be challenging. The team's potential is heavily dampened by injuries, with Alisami, Hjort, Eikrem, Nouri, and N’Jie all out for the clash against the 'Bumblebees.'
Bodo/Glimt
Before the break, Bodø was third in the standings, hot on the heels of Viking and Tromsø. Considering Espen Knutsen's team made waves in the Champions League, reaching the Round of 16, the summer break was welcomed by the 'Bumblebees' with open arms. They barely had any time off over the last two years due to their European campaigns, so after a 3-1 win over Brann and a 2-2 draw with Rosenborg, the runners-up eagerly took their rest. Of course, this didn't include three players who represented Norway in the World Cup (Bjorkan, Berg, and Hauge), but Glimt has an impressive roster depth to cover their absence. During the break, they comfortably defeated Molde 4-1 and Start, flexing their muscle even without several rotational players. Against the Oslo team, they are expected to take control from the start. Possessing the ball, playing a high line, aggressive pressing, and quick combinations out wide and in the half-spaces, with Kasper Høgh spearheading the attack, will allow them to maintain the upper hand in this encounter. The visitors thrive in breaking low defensive blocks either through short passes or sharp counter-attacks. Additionally, Magnus Riisness might be doubtful for the match against KFUM.
Prediction
These teams met earlier this season in the Norwegian Cup, and Bodø kicked their opponents out in the Round of 32 with a 2-1 victory, including extra time. With that in mind, even back in April, Knutsen's squad was under significant strain, and things seem much more balanced now. Given Oslo's squad issues, the gap in class and experience, and the depth Bodø boasts, Høgh, Mjätte, and company should continue their pursuit of Viking and possibly overtake Tromsø right after this match (lagging by just 2 points). Bodø has defeated their rivals in their last three encounters (two in the league and one in the cup), and from how they've performed during the preparatory break for the league's resumption, the favorites are unlikely to face any issues securing three points here.
